Network Marketing: Success in a Part-Time Business

Yesterday, I was blessed to be able to speak with a group of network marketers that were attending a presentation put together by a friend of mine. While the point of my input was focused on marketing of their business and more specifically tapping into the power of social media, it got me to thinking.

There I was in a room full of busy people all at different points in their journey to financial freedom. Some were contemplating starting a network marketing business, while others had achieved varying levels of success. The common link is that inevitably they all have a busy life, full-time jobs, family, other obligations, etc, all trying to build a home based business with limited time available.

If not yesterday, at some point they will all be asking the question: Can I build a successful network marketing business on a part-time basis?

With all of the things that you have contending for your time, you have a choice. You can make it in your network marketing business, or you can let your business break you. Really, it is that straight-forward. You must make the decision that you will succeed if you have any expectations of doing so. Not making a decision will allow someone or something else to make decisions about your future for you and I guarantee you that they will have entirely different plans for you.

The good news is that with a part-time work week of as few as 8 hours per week you can build a very substantial residual income.

If you want to make it in this profession, you will need to put in as many hours as you can each week. Start by putting a PLAN in place to dedicate the time that you have available to work on your business. The most critical component is how CONSISTENT you are each week, regardless of the number of hours you put in. Actively spending time in your business is critically important, but consistency in your time carries more weight.

As I explained yesterday our profession goes by many titles, MLM, Network Marketing, Direct Sales, Home Based Business, but my personal favorite is Relationship Marketing. Think about it this way, we are in the business of building relationships with other people. First we must determine if there is a need, if what we have to offer will fill that need and then most importantly do everything possible to help them achieve success.

By virtue of the fact that this foundation is all about the Relationships, first, we must remember that people naturally respond to consistency. Even with the ability to devote very few hours to your business, consistency in devoting those hours will demonstrate that you are a professional, a leader. In case you have never thought about this, people are naturally attracted to leaders and will in many cases seek you out.

Now, for a huge mistake that is made by the large majority of network marketers is that during the small amount of time that they have to dedicate each week, they are consistently doing NOTHING. If you get nothing else from this article get this: Production Matters. While you should be regularly checking your progress against your goals, get yourself an accountability partner that will hold you accountable. A Plan, Consistency in your Time, Production and regular review of your progress are all key components of what will make you a success.

Realize that you have opportunities each and every day that simply are impossible to get back once they are gone. A minute ago is gone and never to be seen or capitalized on again. While you can always make more money time is the one thing that once spent you will never get back. You MUST capitalize on each minute, each second and seize the opportunities as they come. Imagine if you were given $86400 each day, but at the end of each day any unused money was gone. Would you pay close attention to making sure that you used that money to its fullest capacity? Each day you are given 86400 seconds and all too often you are spending them without any thought of the fact that you will never get them back.

If you are going to make it in nominal hours, max it out. Work at an absolutely feverish pace during the hours that you have available. There is no time for slacking, no time for going slow, not time for messing around. The time that you have for your business is about production, production, production. You simply cannot worry about focusing on or messing around with things that not of critical importance. You can’t major in the minors when you have limited amounts of time.

Additionally, you will want to communicate with your leaders. Do your sponsors know that you are serious? Are you learning the skills that you need to be successful in your new profession? While you don’t want to try learning everything you need to know to be a success, you can leverage the leaders in your group that know what you don’t know. Through countless 3-way calls I have learned more than I would have ever dreamed. When was the last time you had one of your leaders on a 3-way call with you? You must become a student of this business if you expect to earn 6-figures and more in network marketing.

I can honestly say that the first time I fully grasped the potential of Network Marketing I knew that one day I would make a fortune in this industry. I didn’t know how and I truly did not understand the full impact of what was required, but I sought out the people that did. I wanted to learn what they knew. I wanted to do what they did. And, when possible I wanted to improve on what they did, but before I could even think about that, I had to build a foundation of knowledge to work from.

Without a doubt you can make it working very part time in a network marketing business, but you have to follow the paths of those who have gone before you in this profession. I firmly believe that everyone deserves success. The catch is that you will have to work for it. To Your Success!
