Persistence Marketing:

It seems that over the past few days there have been a couple recurring themes in a number of conversations and meetings. As you can imagine the economy has everyone wondering what they can expect in their future, especially in the area of finances. Closely following that a large number of people are looking at Home Based Businesses and Network Marketing for the first time in their life.

Here in lies the challenge, as for many of these people the only life they have ever known had a job as a major focal point. Life for these people has changed for a number of reasons:

-          There are a uncertainties as it relates to their employment or they are newly unemployed

-          The loss of income due to financial investments rapid decline

-          Increased expenses as a result of rising interest rates

-          Etc, etc

While the simple fact that these people are entertaining the thought of Network Marketing business opportunities represents a paradigm shift, they really have little understanding of the journey they face.

Let’s start with the fact that many of these people have been working in jobs that were very process driven and as such these individuals have become very comfortable with routine. Now these people are going to pushed pulled and knocked out of their comfort zone in ways that they never imagined.

If these people have not been in some type of sales role they are going to deal with more rejection in a week than they typically had to deal with in a year of their previous profession. Oh, don’t forget about the fact that now they are in a sales role without many of the skills/habits typically associated with sales professionals: Follow-up, Prospecting, Qualifying Prospects, and the all important Closing skills.

Anyone that has been in the Network Marketing profession understand that all of these new business owners will magically have all of the prospects that they will ever need based on their list friends, family and colleagues. Any one that has spent the time and energy in Network Marketing to achieve a reasonable level of success still remembers getting through their list only to discover that most had resulted in rejection. Now if there is any hope of success, they must start to truly put a prospecting system and process to work in their business.

With computers and technology as the major backbone for many people building a Home Based Business there is a large number of people that find themselves having to use their computers and cell phones in ways that they never dreamed. The simple act of making a 3-way call for team support when talking with a new prospect becomes the source of stress. With webinars becoming a major prospecting and training tool many people are finding that technology is not always their friend.

What do all of these challenges really mean?

Work and a lot of it is what this new business is going to require out of these new business owners. The good news is that any with the determination and discipline to stick with their new business, has a wonderful opportunity to provide financial independence for their family for years to come.

Like anything in life there will be those that pick up these new skills with little to no effort. And, there will be many (I qualify for this group) that regardless of how quickly they are advancing it will not be fast enough. Struggle, will be the theme for yet another group of these new business owners. However, regardless of which group you fall into, patience will be required and I urge you to simply measure yourself against your goals and no one else.

Find a mentor that has been down this path, understands what is required to achieve success, is willing to work with you, hold you accountable, and in the end ease the learning curve. While a mentor can do a lot to help your achieve the success that you are searching for, there is no one that can do it for you. The important part of building your fortune is the journey. If you have never had the opportunity read “Think and Grow Rich”, by Napoleon Hill, I would highly recommend taking the time to do so. He talks at length about why even though on the surface having a fortune handed to us would be nice, the natural laws of our world have proven that will be a short lived success.

Starting your Home Based Business is going to challenge you in ways that you never expected, but there really is a fortune that waits for you at the far end of the journey. You will experience a major paradigm shift if you truly plan to build your business and in the long run you will be able to look back at that shift with fond memories. To Your Success!
