In light of the topic yesterday regarding, “The Importance of a Positive Mental Attitude“, I felt that it was important to address the fact that many people entertaining the idea of a Network Marketing business struggle with the myths. First and foremost much of the hype and negative information regarding the MLM industry is nothing more than Myths.
The MLM industry is like any other that is plagued with myths that hold many business owners back and diminish the possibilities for success. Myths do not originate from successful MLM professionals but from those that can’t make it work. This is where human nature rears its ugly head as people want to blame something or someone else when they fail. The truth is this doesn’t mean that negative statements are true, as there are many that are successful. As is typical, those that didn’t ever invest the time required to learn what to do are voicing negative information thereby creating the MLM myths.
To add fuel to the fire, there are many that have never tried an MLM business and simply repeat what they hear or read from people who have failed. For those that let fear rule their lives they now have the perfect excuse for taking any risks, especially the risk of failure. If you want advice before taking the leap, be sure to get sound advice from those who are successful in the Network Marketing industry as they are more likely to tell you the truth about what it takes to be successful yourself.
Create a list of prospects starting with friends and family.
There are very rare cases when someone can actually build a successful business from their warm contacts. For the majority of people that are new to the MLM industry their warm market consists of friends, family and close business colleagues. The truth of the matter is that Uncle Joe and Aunt Mary probably could care less about starting and building a MLM business. While they may love you and genuinely care about your success, you will be lucky if they at a minimum want to purchase your products as a customer. Take a look around at any of the conventional businesses that you come in contact with on a daily basis. How many Sales professionals do you know that maintain their current life style based on sales to friends and families? Trust me you want find any.
Your new business is going to require Marketing, Prospecting, Lead Generation, Sales skills and a budget. For many people starting a new MLM business you are going to have to learn about your company, your products and many new skills. In short to build a successful business it is going to take work.

One of the most common myths that I hear is from someone new to the network marketing industry is that someone else is going to build their business for them. All they need to do is get in the business and through some magical process their business is going to be built for them. Recruiting other business builders and moving product through your downline is going to be required if you have any expectation of success. The real truth is that once your organization begins to grow and you have a number of business builders that are replicating what you are doing, you will begin to reap rewards beyond your wildest expectations.
Starting an MLM business is quick easy money.
No, because if it were everyone would be building an MLM business. The Overnight success stories you hear about were at least 1, 2, 5 or more years in the making. Building a business requires personal development and consistent ongoing work! Network Marketing requires more than purchasing a company replicated website, driving some traffic to that site and then sitting back waiting for the money to roll in. Again, you’ve heard me say it before, but it bears repeating……you will have to WORK hard to build a business.
Please understand that I am not and never would try to talk you out of jumping in with both feet and building a successful MLM business. However, I do want you to start this journey with your eyes wide open and a realistic expectation of what will be required of you. Personally, I can honestly say that the Network Marketing industry will provide you with more opportunity for growth, financial rewards and eventually time spent with friends and family, than any other profession you will ever find.
If you are not willing to settle for the limitations imposed on your time and finances by a typical job I would highly recommend that you seriously consider the MLM industry. As discussed in, “The Importance of a Positive Mental Attitude”, your attitude will have a profound impact on your chances of success. There will be plenty of people that would like nothing more than to steal your dreams, simply because they are unwilling to dream. You must decide if you going to allow others to control your life through the negative information spread through the countless myths or will you take control of your future. I am firm believer that anyone can succeed in the MLM industry if they start with a clear understanding of what will be required of them. To Your Success!
