Use Affiliate Marketing to Grow Your MLM Business

by Glenn Antoine on April 1, 2009

Everyone that I have ever met that just started with a new MLM business opportunity was excited and ready to take on the world. Then something happens to take the wind out of their sales and their ship to financial independence begins to sink. What happened to all of the excitement, drive and willingness to take on the world? I can tell two of the most damaging things that can happen to a new MLM business builder.

First of all, yesterday I addressed the importance of a constant stream of prospects and how critical that is to the growth of your business opportunity. And, a very close second is that these new business builders soon discover that this new business that was supposed to set them free is now costing them more than they make. Many will stick with it for a while, but very few truly understand the total cost in time and money required to build a successful business.

Since I covered the topic of prospects and prospecting in “Prospecting and Your MLM Business”, I won’t go into that any further.

However, the subject of being in a position to finance the marketing of your new MLM business is much more closely related to the topic of prospecting than you may think. Before I tie these two challenges together let’s take a close look at what it takes to be successful with Affiliate Marketing.

The overall concept of affiliate marketing and making good money from affiliate marketing programs is not a new concept. Since the birth of the Internet people have been creating ways to generate a revenue stream from the Internet and many of them were doing so through the power of affiliate programs. As you can imagine as time has moved on the number of opportunities have increased dramatically and likewise the amount of money that you can generate as increased to levels only dreamed about at one time.

In case you are not familiar with Affiliate Marketing, it is an Internet-based marketing practice in which a business rewards affiliates for each customer created by the affiliate’s marketing efforts. In short affiliates become Internet based sales representatives for the company that offers a commission for customers referred to them. The great thing about affiliate programs and the commissions that you receive as a result of those marketing efforts, is that they are working for you 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

However, there are some things that you need to keep in mind when looking at affiliate programs, a few of which I will address here.

First and foremost for an affiliate program to be successful, it needs to be something that the masses want and are willing to pay for. This one is not very difficult to understand as “no demand”, means “no customers” which means “no commissions” for you.

Be patient. This is one thing I see people that are just starting out do all the time. They quit before their marketing promotions really take hold. Many quit just about the time they would otherwise be bringing in money. Whenever I start a new website in a competitive market, I plan on it taking a year before I see any REAL money. It takes time to get the traffic to your site unless you have deep pockets and are using PPC. The good news is that you do NOT need to have deep pockets to make an affiliate program work for you.

Establish your online presence by providing your targeted traffic with the best ways to find you and your products. Some of the things you may want to include: building your website, Blogging, Social Networking, build Squidoo lenses, participate in forums, pay per click advertising and article marketing and much more. For many of you the most cost effective methods in terms of both time and money will be tapping into the power of Social Networking, Blogging, Article Marketing and Squidoo.

Now back to an earlier point where I briefly mentioned that your Prospecting and Affiliate Programs are much more closely related than what you may think.

Some of the most successful Network Marketers in the industry are tapping into the power of Affiliate Marketing programs as a means of generating the revenue to power their Prospecting efforts. Think about it: You put your affiliate commissions to work driving your prospecting efforts that are in turn building your primary business. Furthermore, as your marketing efforts become more effective your Prospecting/Lead Generation becomes a profit center while providing a constant source of new prospects for your primary MLM business.

While there are a large number of prospecting and lead generation systems available for you to choose from, if your marketing efforts continually cost you money you may want to look for a new solution. Personally, if I have two systems available to me that work great, one system is an ongoing cost and the other is a profit center, I don’t have to think long about which I will use.

If this is a new concept to you, I would highly recommend that you checkout the system that I use to generate on ongoing stream of new prospects while it creates a positive revenue source for me.  In today’s economy you need to put everything in your favor that you can. Work smarter with your time and your money while building a large contact database of new prospects and your chances of success just increased dramatically.

We all know that the death of a large number of new network marketers business come about as the result of too few prospects and not enough money to continue. Why not solve both of these problems with one solution and be on your way to financial freedom. It’s your choice. To Your Success!
