Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking

I found Blink by Malcolm Gladwell to be a very enjoyable and easy read. As I was reading I kept finding myself going back to the question: How many of my decisions/choices are really my own and how many are influenced by outside sources?

While I have not taken the time to read The Tipping Point, I can assure you that with Gladwell’s ability to take complex ideas, provide the reader with very compelling supporting information, quickly followed by easy to understand everyday examples, The Tipping Point will be read in the very near future. As a matter of fact I just purchased The Tipping Point and have it in the queue.

While I could continue to explain all the reasons why you will want to read The Tipping Point I have placed reviews below from Amazon and Publishers Weekly.

Amazon.com Review
Blink is about the first two seconds of looking–the decisive glance that knows in an instant. Gladwell, the best-selling author of The Tipping Point, campaigns for snap judgments and mind reading with a gift for translating research into splendid storytelling. Building his case with scenes from a marriage, heart attack triage, speed dating, choking on the golf course, selling cars, and military maneuvers, he persuades readers to think small and focus on the meaning of “thin slices” of behavior. The key is to rely on our “adaptive unconscious”–a 24/7 mental valet–that provides us with instant and sophisticated information to warn of danger, read a stranger, or react to a new idea. WordPress 3.0 Release Candidate

Wordpress 3.0 Release Candidate As of the end of last week the announcement was made regarding the first release candidate of WordPress 3.0. For any of you that have been looking forward to this release of WordPress you can rest assured that within a few weeks you should have the availability of WordPress 3.0 in a stable format.

For anyone that has not been following the development of WordPress and the announcement concerning WordPress 3.0 the biggest change is Merge of WordPress MU + WordPress.

If you are unsure of what WordPress MU is, no need to worry. WordPress MU is basically WordPress platform that allows users to run multiple sites under one installation. As a great example WordPress.com is running on the WordPress MU code base. While Matt Mullenweg announced the merge news during WordCamp San Francisco 2009, the WordPress developers have finally announced the first release candidate of 3.0.

While the merge was the major feature enhancement to WordPress there are a number of additional features that can be reviewed at the following link: Continue reading ‘WordPress 3.0 Release Candidate’ »

The Shift by Wayne W. Dyer, Ph.D.

The Shift: Wayne DyerAnyone that has been around me for any amount of time knows that personal development is a core value of mine. Personally, I don’t know that I could ever learn enough, grow enough gain enough wisdom and knowledge to quench the thirst I have for personal development.

My hopes are that through my own personal development and growth I will be able to have a positive impact on the lives of the many people that I meat on a day to day basis. After all learning for the sake of learning really doesn’t excite me that much. However the thought of being able to help someone else is far more interesting to me.

If you have ever read any of Wayne Dyer’s books you will not be surprised by the impact that this little book can have on your life. For those of you who have never read any of his books, attended any of his seminars or had the pleasure of listening to any of his recorded materials, please take a moment to pick up “The Shift”. While this book is a very easy read, the potential impact on one’s life is beyond measure.

Now for the good news for those of you that don’t like to read and probably wouldn’t read a book if your life depended on it. “The Shift” is a companion book to a movie by the same name. While I personally have not seen the movie, if it provide an impact anything close to the book, you will be watching the movie multiple times.

Twitter Hashtags and Why You Care

Twitter Hashtag & How to Use them.If you have been using Twitter for more than just the occasional glance to see what your friends are up to you, there is no doubt that you have seen a hashtag. As a matter of fact now that I say that you may not even know what I mean by the term “Hashtag”.

Let’s start there. A hashtag is nothing more than a word, maybe two with the “#” symbol attached to the front of the words. To make it even easier for you to get an understanding of which hashtags may currently be trending, login into your Twitter account and you will see a list of current hashtags listed in the right-hand column of your Twitter account. For example at the moment the top listed hashtag that I am seeing is “#nowplaying”.

WordPress Website: Are you protecting your asset?

Wordpress Database Backup PluginIn a previous life as a systems engineer protecting system data, having the resources to recover from a fatal melt down and frankly protecting clients from the headaches that come with lost data was a daily focus.  As many of you reading this, my daily activities rely heavily on the performance of WordPress and its incredible reliability. To that point a significant chunk of my revenue is dependent upon WordPress performing as many of us take for granted.

Let me ask you as question: When was the last time that you backed-up your database? How about your site files?

Do you keep your WordPress up to date with the latest updates? How about any plugins that you make use of, do you keep them updated?

Let me tell you a quick little story.

What kind of website does your business have?

Web Traffic: SEOAll too often I meet with very sharp small business owners that do all the things you would expect when it comes to building a successful small business. These business owners are developing strategic relationships, monitoring their sales and marketing goals, keeping tabs on expenses and ensuring that forecasted cash flow is going to meet expected demands. While this list could go on, I am sure you get the point.

Why is it that these same business owners seem to disconnect their brain when it comes to their website design, performance and overall role in the business?

Why is it that many of these business owners fail to understand that their website presence is a very real and viable source of new prospects, sales and business opportunities?

A Very Happy New Year

I wanted to take a quick moment to wish everyone a VERY Happy New Year. May 2010 be your best year yet. God Bless – Wishing you a 2010 filled with Health, Wealth, Prosperity and Happiness!

Merry Christmas & Thank You All

I wanted to take a moment to tell everyone Merry Christmas and to express my gratitude for all the blessing I (and my family) have received this year. While, like many I have had some challenges during 2009 I can say in all honesty that I have far more to be grateful for than I deserve.

To my wife, my Sons, Mom & Dad, my wonderful sisters, my father-in-law, and brother/sister in law, you all mean more to me than I will ever be able to fully express. I Love You All & pray that God will bless you all beyond your wildest dreams in 2010 and beyond.

For all my friends, family, and site visitors I am grateful for each of you. More than any of you will ever know I am blessed to have you as a part of my life. Many times the smallest comment, word of encouragement or thanks means the world to me and reminds me why I do what I do.

For all of my new friends (family) that I have as a result of Zarvos Coaching, the Breaking Through Series and the incredible Vision in Action (VIA) leadership course, I am eternally  grateful to each and everyone of you. Many of you have been a tremendous source of  inspiration when I most needed that extra encouragement. I love you all and count myself blessed to have you as part of my life.

There are countless others in my life that I would like to take the time to thank, but that would require more space than I could possibly cover here in the space. I have no doubts that God has brought you all into my life and as such I am grateful for each and everyone of you. Merry Christmas to all and God Bless. I pray that 2010 will be a year of countless blessing of health, wealth and prosperity.

With Love and Respect,

Glenn
